    It really doesn't happen...

read this... also, search for it. It's been largely said to be a "no" type of thing.

Why would you even want to change it?

Well i feel it's naff. I created this account 6 years ago, kinda grow up a bit since the early days. Every single other forum account i have i use "Paul Ferrie" and other forums where i have not used this name have been happy to accommodate the name change. Of course i am not sitting on these other forums with under 100 post's. Same as here 1000+ post's

It is when you have to change loads everday.

I guess you could set up an automated system where it says "formally..." for 30 days or something.

That's for one person. I can bet quite a few people would want their names changed.

Do you remember when avatars and titles were manually done? Took weeks until it came through.

That's not difficult to automate, I reckon most of us could write the php to do that.

It's not really a matter of HTML / PHP. More SQL / PHP than anything. It appears the name is dynamically created each time you request a page so changing it's easy. It's just that you have to go in and change it. Plus it creates confusion for the other members.

Changing it is a 5 minute job for someone with the right access.
confusion is the only issue i see with changing any username on any forum.

my first account was registered back in sept 2000, it be the same as asking if the admins would change the date so i could have my original sign up date on this account.

not going to happen... too much hassle just for one individual, which was changed would throw up questions by other members wanting similar changes, which would cause massive work load...

A script to allow members to change their names themselves would be open to abuse by trolls looking to cause trouble.
and in a blink of an eye...

I don't think it has ever been a matter of difficulty.

I could understand if your username was 'muffmuncher' or something equally stupid...but I really can't see anything wrong with 'webdreamer' as a nick in a forum community.

I understand why you would want to change that, but I think the larger issue is this -- we have a very, very large forum. If the people who run FK allowed username changes they could get requests all the time, and the people who administer the website aren't paid to spend all of their day changing usernames for people.
