    Which messenger do you use?

I use Adium for light chatting if I just want to sign in, send a few messages, and sign out (very fast at loading and logging in). Has a beautiful interface, very responsive, incredibly customizable, supports 13 different IM networks.

For heavy, feature-filled chatting (ie, if I want to send custom emoticons, view webcam, see session messages, find out info about their clients, save their DPs, etc), I use Mercury Messenger. It's Java, so it works on all OSes, but it's takes up a bit of CPU and RAM as a result. Pretty slow on my computer, but it can do everything, and you can customize every single inch of your experience with it.

(in case anyone's interested in Mercury, latest Mac version can be downloaded here, and latest Windows version can be downloaded here).

Also got Windows Live Messenger on my phone, but there's some ambiguity as to whether or not it's costing me money to use, so I try to avoid staying on it too long.

What messenger(s) do you use, and why?

Why do you have AIM, MSN, and ICQ when Trillian will connect to all of those?

heh, condensed my answer too much apparently,
I use Trillian for PC because it supports: AIM, MSN, ICQ plus audio and video. I started using it because it has no ads.

How are you liking Agile Messenger? I'm just using the default AIM that came with mine and is some samsung proprietary build. Works, but I hate aol/TW software.

Am I a total nunce for not knowing anything about skype yet?

iChat (AIM) and occasionally MSN Messenger

I did use Aduim a lot, but I so rarely use any instant messaging at university.

miranda: open-source multi protocol instant messenger client for windows:
    http://www.miranda-im.org/

I hate the official spammed MSN,AIM,Yahoo & ICQ messangers - to much ads and candy interfaces. Most of them even spy on the system - yada
Miranda is tiny in filesize (doesn´t need to be installed there are zip files as well).
I use some plugins for it as well but I am propably not that much of a fan of IM in general

    edit: supports:
AIM, Bonjour, BNet, Gadu-Gadu, Inter-Asterisk eXchange, ICQ, IRC (Internet Relay Chat), Jabber, Mail.ru Agent, NetSend, MSN / .NET, QQ, Skype (Skype-API wrapper, requires Skype to be running), Tlen.pl, Yahoo!
