Dell ships PCs with Linux
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6506027.stm
Over 70% of people surveyed said they'd like to give Linux a try and now Dell is going to offer it as a pre-installed OS instead of windows.
Maybe this will herald a new stage in the adoption of linux by 'normal' users.

.: Weirded Out :.
Ubuntu is cool looking and all, but I'm just not that interested. Mac OS and Windows will do fine.

Dell computers with Linux Osystems ? That's not something new. I've already bought a desktop a month or 2 ago with RedHat Linux preïnstalled via the Dell internet website.

Then you were either part of some test program or you accidentally bought a server as a desktop.

I'd swear they've toyed with this almost a year ago... Dell that is. We had a desktop come with Linux pre-installed that wasn't a refurb for a client... about 12 of them.
Per request.
I know the servers have it as an option though. Have for years.
Personally... I'm just all about buying the desktop with Linux or no OS and then putting my own on it. Not like I don't have the ability to install the machine like I'd want.

Maybe there was a test run. They have certainly been selling servers with Linux for a long time, it wouldn't have been that hard to try out some desktops.
They haven't decided what flavour of Linux to use yet.
