The effect is nice but for the average viewer its not
The moment i opened the site i got a instinctive feel to close the site faster than you can say cheeze, pop-ups and repositioned windows are the number 1 symbol of advertisement on the web.
Cool effect but i cant see how it would work for someone who ISNT a webdesigner. I think they would simply hate it.

GOOD BEER... GOOD
Wow great site, love the colors and javascript.
All out of Honey Buffers, so i grabed a few Goose Heads

There is some cool work going on there, however I agree with Johnny Shiro, my instinct was to close it as well because of the pop-ups.
Additionally, and this is just my opinion, a website should not remove control from the user in that way and man-handle the users browser window.

I have the basic javascript to replicate the main page and the two pop-up windows and I'd like to play around with it purely to learn and explore its creative possibilities. What I don't understand is how to populate the pop-up windows with content. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

didnt work for me, I got the first two popups which looked cool, but after that just got two tiny popups which got stuck, too risky building a site like that where certain users wont be able to see, I am on windows vista ultimate which may have something to do with it, but theres gonna be a lot of people on vista.

Yeah very cool javascript work.
There is a html textfield in the page which is "hidden" and it contains the window width and height settings. Then flash sets the textfield values, thats how they communticate.

I take it that left.asp? and right.asp? refer to the left and right pop-up content files?
-
That could be the worst concept I have ever seen explored in the field of web design.

Why? Surely microsites like this afford designers an opportunity to explore the creative possibilities and boundaries of what can and can't be achieved in terms of this organic, ever-changing process we call webdesign. Done well like this example and the user experience can be augmented, particularly for "infotainment "microsites which target a narrow demographic. It only becomes a problem if a plethora of poorly executed sites appear all over the place, and that's very doubtful.

Bingo - I actually thought for a second - oh crap why'd I click that link - and closed it out really quick - but after I realized it was safe I thought it was interesting, but what's the point other than novelty? the effect doesn't enhance functionality

As I said before, microsites offer designers the chance to explore new ways to promote new messages, products and campaigns as well as their own originality and work. The accent here is not on functionality. Usability still matters but the focus is on experimenting with cutting edge navigation techniques and modern design aesthetics and the general look and fee of the site. The design rules for microsites differ slightly from those for normal websites. If your brand is normally clean and professional looking and you want to promote to a new, younger audience, then an eye-catching microsite can do the trick. It's all about stimulating interest and debate. Yes, it may not appeal to every visitor but the idea is to target a select audience. The proof is in the pudding. Judging from the response Samsung have had, it would seem that this microsite has done its job and who can argue with that?
