    Youtube - any video to FLV format

    is there anyone that has an idea, how they do it in youtube, where they can convert any files to FLV format.

    is there a tutorial on this...

    Hi emailroy2002,

    There are a number of commercial products that allow for server side FLV encoding. These commercial software solutions include On2 and Turbine SDK. I believe that Youtube uses On2 software, but I am not sure about that. It is important to understand that this is basically a program installed on your server that will re-encode videos files from one format to another. This particular PDF on Adobe's website might provide some background information regarding this particular situation.

    It is possible to sidestep commercial software solutions however if you are on a tight budget. You can install a free video encoder/libraries such as ffmpeg (which supports many formats) on your server and then call the libraries from a script.

    Of course, if you're just looking for a client side video to FLV converter (that is, a program you can use yourself to convert your videos to FLV from your own computer), Adobe/Macromedia Flash itself can do it or you can use a 3rd party tool such as Riva (which is free).
