I'm a mod at a university cycling forum and it's so much fun. Sockpuppets are allowed, the users can change their usernames, and slagging off is encouraged - it's chaos at it's most beautiful. Cycling is rated by the University just above competitive spitting, and received the equivalent of 2 paperclips and a donut as sponsorship; despite that the site generates more traffic than all the other sports sites combined.

Regular mods can hurl lightning bolts and crush people with a thought in their own forums, but the power to ban people and change titles lies only in the hands of the supermods and the admin. So just so you know, making someone a mod wouldn't result in the ban of anyone without their approval.
