[Help] Automated Attendent (Sims Style) A.I. in Flash Games

    Hi Everyone,

I am a newb to this board...but everyone has to start somewhere...right?

I am doing a research project for my boss...and I need some good examples of A.I. in flash games on a par with the automated characters in the Sims style games that come into the stage and interact with the player.

Can anyone recommend some sites or places to look for games of this style?

    Thanks for your help.

    with regards,
    mia

Pretty much all AI related stuff talks only about pathfinding. Anything more complex is probably related to specific game.

Anyway, I doubt there is much about AI in Flash games but since Flash is not anything special you should look for AI in general game design.

Indeed AI is not a specific Flash-related topic. There is a lot of information about AI structures to be found, starting with wikipedia and google. Also concider reading books about AI, since it's pretty heavy theory.

    Good luck!

I don't think the OP is looking for how to WRITE AI. I think he is just looking for some games that have decent AI to show to his boss as examples or to list in a paper.

Unfortunately I don't know of any flash games that exhibit the kind of AI you are looking for. I frankly don't spend a lot of time playing flash games though, and there are millions of flash games out there. I suspect something exists, but you need a better subject matter expert than I.

well... not sure if this is what you mean, but there is a game in which the character (made of blocks) walks to where you click on the map... like the sims do when you click then, however he doesn't wander randomly and interact with the environment when he's not going anywhere like the sims do...

i have forgotten the link at the moment, but it's kind of a puzzle / adventure game, if this would be useful i could try and find the link for you...

edit: whoops... i think i totally misread the purpose of this thread, you want to find good ai, not see examples of sims stlye movement (even though it does use pathfinding)

i think if you actually want to make this game... go for the kind of ai used on enemies in tower defence games, that way the people could move around furniture like towers...

if you are just looking for examples, than i don't think i can help you, and i have played most of the flash games out there!

    Commando 3 (http://www.birchlabs.co.uk/Commando3.html) has pretty human-like AI.

Also, a VERY good example of AI is my Naruto Game (unfinished):

    http://birchlabs.co.uk/Naruto%20Game.swf

(WASD keys to move, T to create a kagebunshin when you have enough chakra, and Y to use a punch-combo). It's red team vs blue team, and both the guys on red team are keyboard-controlled (other red player uses IJKL for movement). The AI is VERY human-like, I just considered what my responses would be in any given situation, and told the AI to do it, too.

Forgot to add the [/plug] at the end.

Also I attribute it to my brief period of working alongside Squize.

Most AI in flash games is pretty weak. It is very possible to write sims-like AI, it's just there is no point for an online game that may be played for 10 minutes.
