Creating a sound equalizer effect

Does anybody have an idea how to do this, or a link to an article on getting it done? It would just be a simple bar equalizer display. Nothing interactive.

You might try entering "Flash equalizer" in google. I actually found a hit linking to a prototype on Flashkit itself

Cool, I actually found a great tutorial while reading through the "AS 3 Cookbook" which I simply modified for my own use. My result turned out quite nice actually!

what if i want the equalizer to play according to the tempo and beat of a music? is that possible in flash? i think so but have no idea how to proceed with it

there is a great tutorial on gotoandlearn.com, you can check it out there (its a video tutorial)

that, or you can go get a copy of AS 3.0 cookbook. Good examples in there of how to do it.
