    Low - spec game

Right - I've got a long flight coming up and I want a game to play on my laptop. Thing is, my laptop isn't really cut out for gaming - it's got 2 gig of ram and a decent enough processor but the graphics card isn't up to much and it's running vista so that uses up resources.

What I'm after is a decent game that wont hammer my machine - maybe even a game a few years old that had lower requirements.

BTW, I really know nothing about games - I think the last game I played properly was the first Tomb Raider...

If you're going for Tomb Raider, I'd suggest go for the 4th directly, some real nice egypt based locations, puzzles and cut scenes.

Half Life 1, awesome fps gameplay, story, AI and maps. Its kinda old, they have low poly. models of enemies compared to today's games, but I still think this game and Duke Nukem 3d kicks 'wild' 'alien' a$$.

Peggle Extreme. There's a demo in The Orange Box if you have it. Damn addictive.

Peggle Extreme is good? I have it installed but I haven't booted it yet.

Peggle is one game I don't understand, there is absolutely no strategy, just luck. I would recommend Geometry Wars for XP.

    Sim City? Good times...

Otherwise you should consider the Red Alert series... then again, a trackpad makes it harder.

You can't play any Steam games without the internet. At least not that I know of. So Half-Life and the Orange Box are out of the question.

Thanks for your ideas guys.. Just ran into another problem - battery life - I think I'd need my machine to be running in high performance mode to run games which only gives me an hour or so of battery life..

There are powerpoints on the plane but only for business and upper class (not us lowly economy passengers)..

Ask them if you can plug in where they charge up the cattle prods.

Command and Conquer and Age of Empires aren't performance-oriented. I used to play an early copy of AofE on a 233Mhz P1 Toshiba lappy and it was fine.

And they're great for killing time.
