remove all black background from movie?

I have a black & white movie of some white smoke on a black background:

I wanted to change the black background color so I could have the smoke show in another movie taht has a brown background. Its made up of a series of about 40 or so images, all with the white smoke on the black blackground so I can't just change the background color of the movie, the black is in the images.

Is there any way I can display this in a movie and show just the white smoke and no black? Or do I just need to recreate with images that have a transparent background?

Make sure your smoke images are in a movie clip, and then experiment with the blend modes. One of them should take out the black for you.

Yep, chose add in the blend mode and that worked.
