Image array

Hi
I want to create a very simple gallery that has:

*A large image
*With pre/next arrows
*When next or prev is clicked it fades out and another appears
*Ideally with a simple preloader between images.

I have been told to avoid using a timeline and to use an array.

Can anyone point me towards a tutorial or anything that would have me
as im no familiar with arrays

Can that gallery you linked to be simplified so its just the prev/next?
With no thumbnails.

Yes it can be done with no thumbnails... just leave anything to do with the thumbnails out.
