Documentaries
I love a good doc. They don't seem to be as politically fueled as most other forms of media.
Lately I watched "The 11th Hour" which was kinda tree hugger but has some shocking graphs explaining the momentum and ludacracy of our consumption.
I just finished "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" which was freakin awesome! Such an awesome look into the minds of normal Iraqi's who just want to rock.

Can't wait to see Slacker Uprising.

He has risen!
I love docu's too.
Ganja Queen on HBO was pretty good. Doesn't make you want to travel to singapore though
Brother's Keeper was pretty good too. Very messed up and quite an odd assortment of characters, but definitely worth checking out. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103888/

Alone in the Wilderness is another great one about a 50 year old guy who goes out to the dep north of canada and builds his own cabin by hand and becomes completley self sufficient. It's a pretty quiet movie, but it's definitely inspirational.
Jesus Camp...scared the living crap out of me.
Murderball was great.
The Endurance is another 'adventure' documentary about Shackleton and his journey to the south pole. There's a few different versions of this tale, but this one was pretty good.

I think I saw Alone in the Wilderness. Looks like an old Disney film right?

He has risen!
yup. that guy was the original 'survivor man'. shot all of his own footage on a tripod with old 8mm.

A couple that I've liked:
Stupid in America (20/20 by John Stossel)
DNA (Excellent series about how DNA was discovered. By the Howard Hughes Medical Institute)
Michael & Me (by Larry Elder)
China's Stolen Children (HBO)
The Great Global Warming Swindle
The Revolution (Really good History channel series.)

Capturing the Friedmans is even more intense due to the fact that the subject matter covered is not what the movie started out as. I really don't want to post spoilers, but basically the entire film was a mistake that worked out beautifully.
Jonestown:The life and death of the people's temple is also incredibly intense as they were able to come up with footage and audio tapes from the era which were released thru the freedom of information act. Back then, the FBI was investigating Jim Jones when he was still in California and basically had years of the guy's life on video. When you realize that what you are watching is actual footage and not a re-enactment, it really hits home.

I just watched startup.com. Kinda scary but reaffirms why I didn't take out a loan to start my business.

Cool. I must admit that I'm surprised too.

Where is that one airing? Or did you rent/buy? Sounds interesting.
Just watched the HBO Joe Louis story last night. Was very good.
