    WTF is wrong with me?!

So last night I am sitting at my computer, I go to read a file path from a dialog box, and BAM! all of a sudden I cant friggin' see!
It was like if you stared at a light bulb then tried to read.
I could see out of my peripheral vision well enough to fix my self something to eat, but I couldn't look directly at anything.

After eating I went to the bedroom and just sat on the floor trying to focus on the carpet. There was an area in the upper left of my field of vision that was pulsing. I tried closing each eye to try to figure out which one was giving me the problem, but I couldn't tell any difference between them.

That's when I noticed I could focus correctly again, but the visual distortion had moved down into the lower left of my field of vision where I now had a blind spot in both eyes.

I went and looked in the bathroom mirror to see if there was anything noticeably wrong with my eyes but nothing was wrong that I could notice.

During this entire ordeal I had a very strange almost out of body feeling, and a strange feeling in my mind that I cant even describe.

I lay down and go to sleep...
A few hours later my wife and daughter get home and wake me up, and everything is fine, I no longer have these visual distortions, but I do still feel a little strange even today.

Personally I think I had a mild stroke or aneurysm since the problem didn't seem to be with my eyes so much as with the part of my brain interpreting the signals from my eyes, but I have had iritis before so it could be related to that also.

Anyone have any ideas on what could have caused this to happen, or had something similar happen to you?

I have called every doctor in town, and the earliest I can get in is about a month from now.

wtf?? where the hell do you live? is this normal?

my usual complaint with the docs over here is that it's difficult to book an appointment more than a day in advance (a lot of practices only take bookings for the same day).

might be worth wondering down to the ER, just to get a professional opinion. pain in the arse? yes. absolutely worth it? yes again.

step 1.) goto the ****ing ER dude. "OMG IM BLIND. wait if i look out of the corner of my eye i can make some ramen, sweet no worries people its all good" What the **** are you thinking man, fixing yourself something to eat? if you suddenly go partially blind, and there isnt something covering your eyes it means something seriously ****ed just happened. Eyes dont just Stop working.

step 2.) if the ER says you are medically ok, goto the Eye Doctor as soon as you can get in. they can look inside the eye and make sure you dont have worms or something ****ed like that.

House has successfully traumatised me 3 times now by the process of cramming a needle into someone's eye. It makes me feel weird just thinking about it.

Yea, random you should probably go see a doctor. A month is a ridiculous waiting time, if it's somthing like this which could potentially happen again then doctors normally move round slots to get you in within 2 days.

The town I live in has a major shortage of doctors, and I don't have a personal doctor.
The doctors around here are so over booked it is almost impossible to get in if you haven't already been to the doctor for an initial setup visit where they get your records and look through your history.
If I scheduled today it would be almost a month before I could get in for one of these "setup" visits.

I had health insurance for a while but I dropped it because I couldn't even find a doctor around here that was taking new patients and would accept the insurance.

My grandma died in the local ER from an ulcer.
About ten years ago I had iritis, it started as blurred vision and headaches progressively getting worse over a week until one day I woke up and couldn't see out of my left eye at all.
I went to the ER here, they couldn't figure out what was wrong, and got a bill for over $400.
The next day I went to an eye specialist in Oklahoma City, $35, some eye drops, and I could see again. He said it was caused by swelling due to iritis in the muscles around that eye.
If I had left it up to the local ER I would still be blind in my left eye.
I really don't want to go to the ER here unless I really think I am about to die.

I don't think this current situation is from iritis though, since my eyes weren't irritated at all. It seemed more like my brain was just dropping the signals from my eyes.

If your wife has to drive you 2 hours to see a doctor, go, ASAP. Do not wait a month. That "out of body experience" very likely means it's something in your brain.

If the healthcare situation is as dire as you describe, I wouldn't bother going to the ER because it's probably overwhelmed.

I think my brain was affected more at the time than I realized, why would I go eat if I just went blind?
I remember thinking how odd it all was, but at no point did I have any fear or feelings that I needed to get help.
At one point I could look at words and clearly see each letter, but I couldn't actually make out any of the words. It was like being in a strange dream.

I now have an appointment to see a doctor in Enid tomorrow.
That's 85 miles from here, so I think I'll get someone to drive me in case it happens again.

Needle hell I had a scalpule stuck in my eye. Lost my vision for four days.
All due to a small scrap of weld splatter smaller then the head of a pin.
If I didn't see a doctor when I did I was told that it would have been too late.

I'd see a doctor first chance you can even if it means going to a walk in clinic.
    Have you ever done acid?
The trailers expericenced while on acid are not halucinations. They are caused by brain bleeding over the optic nerve. Acid is stored in the fatty tissues of the brain. Hence people claiming flashbacks years after quitting acid. I'm not saying that acid is the source but seriously you need to see someone about it immediately.
