    BlackBerry Tips and tricks

    Hello everyone.

Just got the CEO a Blackberry Bold. Due to a lot of overseas trips it was pretty much a question of when and not if due to the money saved.

We wont be rolling out an exchange enterprise server for the blackberry till Q1 of 09 so we will be setting up webmail in the meantime.

Basically anyone have some solid Tips and tricks for a first time blackberry user?

*There's lots more, but here's some*

also, tell him to go thru the BB tutorial that's on the unit itself -- the email app shortcut keys are a must. Most frequent ones for me are:
P - move down to previous day
N - move up to next day
T - move to top of email list
B - move to bottom of email list

Insert a period - Press the Space key twice. The next letter is capitalized.

Insert the at sign (@) and periods in an Email field - Press the Space key.

Type an accent or special character - Hold the letter key and roll the trackwheel.

Capitalize a letter - Hold the letter key until the capitalized letter appears.

Exit a screen or dialog box - Press the Escape button.

Move the cursor in a different direction - The Alt key and roll the trackwheel.

Change an option field - Hold the Alt key. Click a value.

Move to an item in a list or menu - Press the first letter of the item.

Select a check box - Press the Space key. To clear the check box, press the Space key again.

Select a line of text - Press the Shift key and roll the trackwheel.

Turn on the backlighting - Press Power button

Switch to another program - Hold the Alt key and press the Escape button. Continue to hold the Alt key and select a program. Release the Alt key to switch to that program.

Move down a screen - Press the Space key

Move up a screen - Press the Shift key + the Space key.

R --- Jump to your alarm clock
    B --- Launch the browser
U --- Jump to your calculator
L --- Jump to your calender
    C --- Compose email
    K --- Lock keyboard
    M --- Jump to messages
    D --- Jump to notes
O --- Open the options menu
    F --- Jump to profiles
    V--- Open saved messages
    S --- Search
    T --- Open tasks
    W - WAP bookmark
    *****************
    Browser shortcuts:
    * H brings you to the home screen. You can change your home page by going to Options - Browser Configuration. It’s the last option.
    * G brings up the address screen. You can also hit Menu - GoTo.
    * K brings up your bookmarks. You can hit A on a webpage to add it to your bookmarks.
    * R refreshes the page. You might want to use this if the page is unresponsive.
    * The Back/Escape key stops a page from loading.
    * Holding the Back/Escape key quits the browser. You can hit the red End button to go back to the home screen, but keep the browser running in the background.

I would just like to re-emphasize 'T' when looking at e-mails. Life is unbearable with a blackberry until you know that one.

Use Opera Mini instead of the provided browser.

If for no other reason than the standard browser refreshes the page each time you zoom in, where opera mini does not.

I will reiterate this (as I've done many times over.) The killer app (bar none) on BB is email. Period. It's fantastic if you are a power email user, which I am, and I am guessing Silver's CEO is.

If you are a chick, buying one in pink to look like Paris Hilton, you won't like it. If you are looking for a cool browser experience, you won't like it. If you are looking to have your desktop MS Outlook in your hand, this is the phone for you. Personally, I don't even think Verizon/ATT should be able to sell them to people who aren't connected to an MS Exchange Server.

I like mine for that reason, email. Though, I'm not connected to exchange.

The facebook app would not install on mine for some reason. But, I've survived.

At the messages page, if u get a lot of text messages and u dont delete them, and u wanna either scroll to the top or bottom of the page u can just press 1 to go right to the top, or 7 to go right to the bottom. Also, hold the asterisk to lock the keyboard, and u dont need to even hold it that long for it to lock.

onwe install the exchange server software is that going to come with a new email application for the blackberry?

If no other then purchasing an email application is there a way to switch between inbox, and sent items? or is it always just shown together? I know you can hide sent items but ideally switching between the two would be best.

Not really. Like I said, it's not meant as a desktop replacement purely as a way to keep up on email till you get back to your desk. The one nice thing with the exchange server is the 2 way wireless sync.

Viewing sent vs inbox is as simple as looking at the icon next to the mail, but, if you must, use a filter...I believe you can save them for future use as well.
