in order to win the lottery you have to play, and the act of playing is an act of greed and selfishness. I don't see how someone helping the homeless should be rewarded with greed. Money is only important to those who believe it to be important, many have gotten by without it.

How many do you estimate have gotten by without it?

Is it ok for parents trying to provide a good life and education for their children to consider money to be important?

Money shouldn't be the only goal, but it sometimes is the only means. And to me, that sucks... but that's the world we live in.

The reason I ask... I just dunno. I had a repeat argument with a friend where the last time I was playing a serious devil's advocate where I explained that karma was not the act of doing good deeds and expecting it all to come back, nor bad deeds and expecting it to come back as well... but the idea of doing good or bad when you have the option and that's what you're putting out there.

As I won, the last time, I said a person putting out good deeds and expecting it to come back in any return of equal (or greater) would ultimately fail within the known confines of physics. No matter how hard or fast you turn something, gravity, wind resistance/friction, heat and momentum wane and quickly try to get back to zero. Thus, what you put in will never equal the effort due to the destructive forces that lessen the energy output. So... what goes into something will never return in the same amount.

But this time, my friend came with a different angle. You can't measure belief... it can be strong, weak, shades of grey, absolute, or something therein. Well, if you believe in karma... well, you guys did a good job above discussing it. Guess this year, I lose.

Just thought I'd ask you guys. I'm on the fence.

the act of playing is an act of greed and selfishness. I don't see how someone helping the homeless should be rewarded with greed.
There is nothing wrong with 'greedy' meaning wanting good things for yourself.Every religion has something that corresponds to this, like budhists want to reach the nirvana, christians wanting to go to heaven and so on.
In that sense the homeless are 'greedy' too, in wanting the others to help them.In budhism what gives bad karma is only creating suffering for the others.
Money is just a tool to trade things.Without it we would be forced to trade cows for apples, apples for salt, things like that. You give a house to the homeless sooner or later 'someone' will give you 10 elephants or 30000 apples or one house or the value of that house in money.
Thats the theory...it kinds of contradicts my signature but sometimes i dont belive it.

I'm ok with you believing that. Not trying to disprove it. But, you trying to prove it is equally impossible. Personally, I believe that the reason her bag broke is that it had flimsy handles and had enough weight in it to break them. Had she been nice to you, you probably would have been sympathetic. There is, imo, no energy or force protecting Patriots fans from abuse.
    Wrong

a.) god is a patriots fan
b.) it is slightly Less impossible to prove karma then to disprove it.

    Hehehe yes... yes I am.
And for the record, I consider drooling over her fine... attributes to be a act of good karma. I expect nothing in return and am showing my support for a complete stranger.

If karma does exist it will send a snow plow down my street soon!

And take it all straight to Winnepeg where it belongs.

i do believe a lion at some point has attacked a zerba. its called the circle of life. watch the lion king sometime and educated yourself.

if the jets beat the dolphins sunda, there can be no doubt that God supports the new england patriots. ****s a ****ing disney film waiting to happen

an amazing record setting team has thier all star super human qb injured in the first game, has to rely on second string qb that hasnt played meaningfull football sense highschool. its a roller coaster ride with highs (4td's teh brink of playoffs) and lows (his dad died) all we ****ing need is a princess and a superbowl happy ending.

If the Chargers make the play-offs, their story is far better and indicative that God is a Saint Diego fan.

The Patriots are the diabolical bad-guy that cheats and won't go away no matter how many times they get kicked off the cliff.

Um, I think Silver wasn't the only one to get educated from Lion King, or cartoons for that matter.
