Meh, I've totally lost touch with what's good and what's not. I've been living without a computer for four months and I just got myself a Samsung NC10, that'll do me

what OS are you running? Info sounds fine but the RAM seems a tad on the low side.

Get 2gb more RAM, get a 64-bit OS, and get a damn good video card and dual monitors... not a bad start.

I'd gone with the AMD Phenom instead, 4 cores.

Nop. Its just perfect. Everything on screen looks like dinosaur balls when i tried using 1280X1024.

    Yep, I know

Thanks Gerbs, but isn't that a bit too much coz I dont play heavy games, only Quake3.

    OMG "four cores" ??????

You're future proofing your purchase, not buying for what you need right now.

I tend to overbuild, but keep my machines for a while.

My old P4 is on it's death bed. I had to use canned air 3 times today to get a fan to stfu. And avast! broke something so it's taking 6+ minutes to start up.

I was reading up on how to get a certain OS to run on my NC10 and I was messing around with some install files on my macmini and I managed to brick it.

Will a standard install disc sort this out for me? I'm getting a kernal panic on startup.

What really puts my RAM into test?
I mean if I copy a 2GB folder from my DVD and paste it in my hard disk, will that task br managed by my RAM or processor?

How many times a week do you copy a 2gb folder from your DVD and paste it onto your hard drive?

Then you'd know if it's a good test or not.

What really puts ram to test?

Run Adobe Premiere and see the difference between 512MB, 1GB and 2GB.
