    • Bought an HP 17-inch laptop February 4th.
    • Ran it with Vista for 11 months. No Problems.
    • Installed Windows 7. No Problems.
    • Nothing else to say. It still runs just like the day I bought it.

It doesn't sound like your MacBook Pro is running OSX at the moment either. It also looks like it's failed at running it quite a few times. Windows must be better than nothing...

Jason, don't even front like you've never heard of a bad PC laptop. Or in your case, server as well.

HR, that sucks dude. We have a few at the office and they're working flawlessly in the AV section. Sucks to hear that a lemon (or two) popped out and you got them.

I will admit that I have seen my fair share of PC problems but I will also say that I haven't ever seen this extreme of a streak of bad luck.

I ran through a bad batch of Dell C840's laptops back in the day. Out of 50 we ordered, only 12 worked for longer than 30 days.

    It happens.

It's evident that you conveniently missed the part about me saying that I have several Windows PCs. Given that fact, your statement is purely asinine. At the end of the day, I have a specific need to be running osx as well. Getting ANOTHER windows PC really does not assist in that need.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    I'll cross my fingers then.

We're supposed to upgrade our systems next month (currently have a 3yo 15" MBP), but our boss wants us go to to the 17" unibody with maxed out specs since we'll be handing quite a bit more web video and flash. I'd opt for a desktop, but since I work from home 2-3 days a week, plus travel to and from our Charlotte and Cincinnati offices from time to time, I need something portable.

Did you have the standard HDD, or upgrade? I don't think the solid state drive is on the table for us, but if there are quite a few known issues with the standard drive that might push the scales in it's favor.

ZOMG! MACS SUXORS LOLOLOL!!!!111 Right jasonsplace? Because only MACS use those inferior Hitachi and Fujitsu drives! Maybe Steve Jobs's protein deficiency has spread to their inventory!

You sure the 'geniuses' at the Apple store aren't using their stock of HDD's for indoor soccer practice, or stacking them near a giant magnet?

Actually the Fujitsu drives are sh*t.

Actually I have both Hitachi and Fujitsu drives and they all still work. I'm wondering if it has something to do with heat being contained within the casing?

Way to show that ignorance. A MacBook Pro laptop has the same parts - CPU, et al - as a Windows laptop.

Just partition, use Boot Camp or Parallels or Fusion and install Windows that way.

If it were a design issue Gizmodo/Engaget/ other nerd whores would be reporting on above-average drive failures by now.

By the way, anyone want to buy an old Powerbook 190cs?
