Questions for you lot...
Is it bad to know so much about the workings of the Internet that you can locate someone by a photo that they posted online within say...1 minute?
How do you maintain a non stalkerish demeanor?
What are the moral implications here?
Seriously, I am feeling rather stalker-like at the moment...
Thoughts...?

It doesn't make you stalker-ish, it makes you aware of privacy considerations that most people ignore.

Not a stalker at all. I've found people that way and when I do... let's just say that PAlexC hit it on the head. Any picture of me that you find online, I've put it out there.
But talking about stalkers... at least you're not Genesis

I was kind of wondering the same thing last week.
Some depressed woman struck up an email correspondence with the wife via a personal site she keeps for inspirational musings/art, and then abruptly broke contact.
The wife got worried so at lunch I took the woman's first name and email address, and within 10 minutes had her full name, age, home address, phone number, and info on some relative's.
Must've freaked her out a little when the wife got her on the phone to ask if she was ok.
The amount of info publicly available to the right... or wrong person is scary.

No!
last christmas my wife and I got a few christmas cards in the mail meant for another couple (the husband and I had the same name). I was able to track down the wife and found her on facebook. We exchanged a couple messages and I was able to mail her the XMas cards from her family.
Kind of freaky that it was so easy (had to start the message off with "Hi, I am not your husband...")

In a German forum last year there was a Obama discussion. By mistake i had my website url on my public info. I got two insulting mails over my contact form from the same person using different names. I have traced the IP address, so I was able to find the exact location.
We are all wired and people making money with selling our personal information.

Hope she was pretty .

well to be honest, i know a few ppl that stalk me. yes, believe it or not i have stalkers. But the thing about that is... if you got something to hide then u shouldnt share it... what i like to do is confuse ppl about information...
i.e. when they start/try to dig stuff about me i'd like link them to fake info that i like. a common misconception that ppl often assume is that when ppl post somethin it is the truth.
that's why i fake everything i say on this board because half the stuff i say is b.s.
like for instance. now i am not black.
* I could be banned at any time... [/evp]

All you have to do is remember that what is posted to the internet stays on the internet. No matter what.

for the win
This knowledge of the internet for me has ruined a budding relationship with a female.

Did she find something about you, or did you find something about her?

Why in the hell would someone stalk you. (All offenses possible intended.)

Snipers and professional hitmen often stalk their targets for days, sometimes even weeks before making the kill.

Who are you stalking and why?

It's all because you disappeared on us. We all had to stalk new people.

Surely a disappearing act would warrant better incentive?

naw... to be stalked effectively, something has to exist to suggest that you exist.
-
If a trail lies on the internetz and no one finds it, did the trail exist?
