Haven't they always shared a lot of parts anyway? Also, didn't the Porsches in the 60's use VW engines?

They've been working so closely together for the last few years, have had a synergy for the last few decades, have even shared engineers as well as the aforementioned parts... it was bound to happen.

Porsche gets the ability to attack the lower end and keep up with the higher end too.

I just think they shouldn't try dragging VW into the higher echelon again - Phaeton anyone? - and think about it. Porsche rarely advertises while VW's advertisements from Fahrvernuegen to "Do do do" (singing) to the current ads "stick" with people.

It's a power struggle between families that happens to involve car companies instead of banks, oil companies, etc.

Plus, a great way to cook the books.

So Porsche owns the largest number of VW shares, but VW owns Porsche. Hmmm.

VAG, Volkswagen Audi Group already owns Audi which is fairly up market. The own Bugatti as well. This merger is less about cars and platforms and parts and more about names on paper.
