Is this legal? What if ...

Now go along with me for a second, what if a part of the game mechanic was to sit and watch ads? Aka user actually makes a request to watch an ad from mochi for example. Is that even legal with mochi or other providers? Gameplay aside, will this fly?

I don't know about others, but in most services, including mochi, that would be illegal cause you can't force user to watch or click ads!

I figured that's how mochi ads worked though. Ad appears while loading game. Or at intervals during game?

You just cant tell people to click ads. Well that's how adsense works.

I didn't mean click the actual ads. I meant click "view ad", and a mochi ad would load in. If someone wants to click it, that's their business.

So would mochi allow that? Don't they base pay on number of ad views as well?

    Yep. It sounds perfectly legal.

Except that you can't display an ad less than 15 seconds after the previous one, so so long as you have a nice little timer telling the user when the next ad's about to pop up, you should be fine.

More like 15 minutes. Also there could be number of reasons why ad wont show (ad server is unreachable, no ads for that region, adblocker prevents calls to mochi etc).

Since that is not a game Mochi would not approve it anyway ( at least I hope they would not )

I guess your question is specific to mochi, but it is probably worth mentioning moola.com. I haven't been there for a while, but it started out by paying people to watch ads.

You'd watch a short video, then answer a multiple choice question to prove you actually watched it, and it would credit a few cents to your account. You then take that credit and gamble it with other players, so a whole bunch of people watch ads and a lucky few make off with the cash.
