Random Access to Video
Hiya,
I fairly new to Flash video encoding. I tried to search this, but I'm not even sure if I'm calling what I need the correct term.
I'm mainly using flash to provide web access to a client to his video library that I have in native format in the studio.
My only issue is, he has to wait on the video to load up to the point he wants before he can view it.
As you know on YouTube and the like, you can simply click the point on the time line you want and to begins loading from there.
How does one do about doing that? Is it a programming thing or something specific on the server?
Thanks!
J

Interesting. Thank you much.

You need to use a streaming media server. The industry standard is Flash Media Server

Cool, I see. Can you tell me, if I use this server, is there special coding needed that allows for random access or is it simply a function of having that service?

It's a function of streaming delivery. the AMS minisite will explain it far better than I ever could
