Accessing a parent's variable from the child

This is probably a fairly easy answer, but I can't figure it out. I have a dynamically added child, and I have a dynamic text box on the parent. I'm thinking that it should be possible for me to add to the text box from the child timeline, but I don't know how to target the text box. Can anyone show me an example?

I made a component, which makes it possible.

Otherwise all you need is to use parent from the MovieClip. If you need more details you need to show the script and tell where it is located.
