    Real time rendering in flash

    Hey there!

I'm thinking about including some 3D elements to my game which are supposed to be rendered in real time, like characters and some details here and there, but keeping everything else in 2D. The aim is to make game more attractive, but for a low performance cost.

What tools should I look for, if it's not bad idea afterall?

I've heard for papervision, but last flash version afaik, supports some of 3d too, so I'm in kind of dilemma.

It really depends on the complexity of the 3D elements you are intending to actually implement. You can get a performance boost by using 2D as most of your elements, but if you desire a decent level of complexity on the 3D models you could still bog down the overrall effect of the game.

I'd say you'd run into the problem of your 3D models not being able to look anything close to the quality of the 2D you have implemented. The stretch between quality of what can be done in 2D to the quality of something done in 3D in flash is still pretty wide and vast. I'm pretty sure it'd be noticeable and agitating.
