Exclamation Recording sound without Flash Media Server?

    Hello,

I am totally new to Flash Media Server I need to be able to record sound via a Flash app and save it to a server preferably without the use of a Flash Media Server type setup. There is no requirement for live streaming.

Is it possible to record the sound and save in memory then pass the data/file as a query parameter to the server?

I don't even know if I've posted this in the correct place... any help/guidance will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Not yet. Direct access to the microphone data will be in the next flash player update.

In the meantime, you do need to send to a server-side component to record. If you don't want to buy Flash Media Server, Red5 is a free java-based solution. http://code.google.com/p/red5/

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes we've already looked at Red5 and the Flash Media Server. The cost is not the main issue I have been told that it would be ideal if we did not have to setup another server because it may conflict with the existing one (potential security issues and more seamless)

But still we are going to setup Red5 for testing and see how it goes.
