what's the technical term for this?

I came across this cool push-down type menu on http://www.ubc.ca/
If you click on any one of the top links (campuses, UBC directories or UBC quicklinks) you will see what I mean. Do you know what this kind of menu is called?

Not sure if there is a technical name for it, but I'd guess "expanding tabs"? Most likely just hidden div elements. Easing might work better there instead of a hard transition, but it's an effective effect as is.

I don't know of a technical term for it. It's sort of a cross between a drop down and a giant accordian menu.

That's a good demo 1stbite. However, I think the advantage of what the ubc website has from a usability perspective is that it pushes the website content down instead of overlaying on top of it. All content stays visible for the user even with the site-map-like menu open.

I'm sure it's a matter of a trivial change in the css in that JQuery slide effect.

Most likely what you've said, but don't ever use Hover instead of click. It's very annoying when you are reading the contents and accidentally rollover and it pushes everything down!
