    Seedling Development

Just finished processing the pics from a little sequence of the development of a bean sprout and thought I'd post them up.

Softbox to left, reflector to upper right.

Now that is just awesome. You're work is always on the next level.

For fun or some class project?

What was the assignment exactly? I'm guessing it was just to draw the process but you went all out?

If you don't mind I'm also curious how you got those shots? They look like 3d renders.

The assignment was actually to produce an 8 photo 'time lapse sequence' of a biological subject. I was going to do a spider making a web, but I couldn't find a big enough spider.

Basically I got a cubical transparent container (a coleslaw box I think) and cut out three of the faces so I could remove them (held the box back together with an elastic band) Filled it up with different layers of soil and planted the seed. Then I could - very carefully - remove the front sides of the plastic to take the photo.

    Now that is genius!

I may have to steal this idea for something...

I'm actually doing an MSc in Biological Photography - so best of both worlds! I'm off to Belize for a month in mid may to do a big photographic dissertation project - so excited about that.

Go for it WannaBe - just so long as you post up the results! I actually got the idea from those sort of 3d rendered cross sections you get (there's an advert on uk tv which is kinda similar at the moment) - and thought Id give it a go photographically.
