Flash Video Player that works like youtube - is it even possible?

I want to purchase a video player that works like youtube. That is:
    1) It converts uploaded movies of certain common file types into flash
    2) Handles captions

Can anyone even suggest where to begin?

What you need is server side programs and yes they exist but it's not done in flash.
look for ffmpeg, mplayer and go from there. This also requires a hosting provider that allows this. As for the flash player it's a pretty basic thing to have one work like the one on YouTube with very little scripting.

    Thanks Blanius,

Are there any companies out there that come to mind, that could handle a project like this?

You need a server side flash video encoder to convert the uploaded file to flash video, then use flash video player to stream the converted flash video.

Try Flash Video MX SDK V2, it is to help server applications to convert video to Flash video (flv), Flash (swf), and aac/h.264 MP4 on Server-side! With it you can build a video hosting website like that of YouTube, Google video, Yahoo! Video, Dailymotion, Myspace, etc. you can have a try too. hope it is useful

You might want to check out PHPMotion:
    http://phpmotion.com/
You can create a great YouTube like site... However, you will need a host who allows you to install this and/or a dedicated server.
