Assange does 'business' in the US, among other places. Assange's website, Wikileaks, was, according to their own 'About' page:
founded by Chinese dissidents, journalists, mathematicians and start-up company technologists, from the US, Taiwan, Europe, Australia and South Africa
Let's stop with the semantics about how and where he can be legally responsible. The internet has made the world very small...you need not have roots planted in a particular place to make an impact there...good or bad.

He is an Australian living in British custody for crimes supposedly committed in Sweden right now. Can he be tried anywhere according to your theory? No. Enough. The ex-pat responsibility game you're playing is only slightly less than boring.

Ah well, I guess we have to see if a court case is raised in the US based on his rights to publish, and then whether it goes back again to the Supreme court to argue again about the First Amendment, and how it should apply in this day and age.

I am guessing no, regardless of all the noise.

sorry 'bout that. Stupid clunky old forum software wouldn't confirm the first post had happened, and then wouldn't let me delete the duplication.

    thanks dude.

I have been thinking about Assange getting bail in the UK, and thinking he probably would have been better off going back to Sweden.

I am not sure being limited to a 600-odd acre, fairly isolated location in the UK is the best option, either if an extradition request is made, or someone wants to snatch the guy and put a hood over his head and spirit him off to some foreign prison where he might have limited legal rights.

I think that would be less likely to happen if he was in Sweden.

Bank Of America now doesn't transfer donations any more to WL. Looks like America's actual government are the banks.

Assange has been threatening to release docs related to B of A's business. Why would they continue to provide any service to him or his organization? Like I said...you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Well... let's see. Wachovia has ties to slavery profits, I'm willing to bet that Bank of America has ties to either nazi gold or apartheid.

My money is on it's something that's already known just the names have never been published.

With that said... I still cannot see why people that support this type of behavior also seem surprised that there is a circumstance or two.

There is no shortage of banks worldwide that want to make financial transactions happen. Creating a shelter account wouldn't cost much at all. As for the press which I'm sure is compensating wikileaks, wire transfers would work just fine and be mostly untraceable.

update to this Assange issue - LINK

Authorities had been unable to link the WikiLeaks founder to Bradley Manning, the army private jailed for passing confidential information to the whistleblowing website, NBC News said yesterday.

The network's chief Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski said sources inside the US military claimed they were struggling to find any evidence to prove Mr Assange and Pte Manning communicated with each other.

"The officials say that while investigators have determined that Manning had allegedly unlawfully downloaded tens of thousands of documents on to his own computer and passed them to an unauthorised person, there is apparently no evidence he passed the files directly to Assange, or had any direct contact with the WikiLeaks figure," Mr Miklaszewski said.

I'm more interested WikiLeaks vi OpenLeaks.

    OpenLeaks may quickly die out.
    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/n...n-progress.ars

The thing about WikiLeaks is If the press was hesitant with publishing WikiLeaks would go foreward anyway. On the Other hand OpenLeaks (with less name recognition) will not directly publish anything, they will dump the leaks on to the media and let stuff fall where it may (or may not)

If anything WikiLeaks showed how real investigative journalism has left most of the "news media"
