Animation Types

Anyone know if there is a particular name for the type of animation where static objects (arms, legs etc) are animated by simply moving or rotating them based on fixed joint points.

Asian shadow puppets are a real world example. As a child you might have created similar animations using cut-out legs and arms with paper fasteners at the joints.

Hope you know what I mean as I can't find any examples.

There are probably other names, but I know this as cutout (or cut-out) animation.
