COOL SITES list is here!!!

Hi Andrew, thanks for letting me know about motiondive.com. I haven't check all the sites myself, it took me almost 2 days (not exactly 48 hours!, maybe like 2 or 3, but it was spread out!) to compile the all the known lists. Then it took me another painstakingly hour or more to get rid of the doubles, and the ones that are from the members themselves. These cool sites should only be sites that people have seen, like xdude.com or something of the like.

Jeff, yeah bestflashsites.de is quite a good resource center, but to me it seems just a little too hard to navagate around. That's not totally what I had in mind, but similar. I didn't like the fact that you had to click ENTER to enter into the site. I'd just want it like here at FK. you didn't have to click ENTER to get here did you?
I'm aiming more to a user friendlier kind of system.

Andrew, as for how critical you want to be, well take a look at the reivew section here at FK, and try to work along those lines. Just a couple of sentences, not too harsh or critical about them, but just explaing the site, and how it's 'cool'

You guess right that I didn't add all of the sites there, partly of the fact that some weren't up to the 'cool' factor standards. And some as I've explained eariler were created by the members here. Not saying that its bad or anything. I am going to create a section though for those kind of sites where people can submit their sites.

UpNorth, yeah EJ was here...he was in my thread I was advertising his site just because I've been a fan of his site ever since I saw it, and remembered that he had redesigned his site. I went there and it was redesigned, and that was on about a Monday. I posted it up in the Cool Sites section, just because of the fact that is is cool, and no one had found out about it yet! Heaps of people flocked to it, and commented about his site. Some people were saying some stuff about his site, and he heard from someone that his site was getting reviews even without his knowledge, so he droped in and wrote a really long post! If ya wanna see the thread, it's here. I asked for it to be closed though because there werer going to be some serious flame wars pretty soon. It got closed on about the Wednesday the week later.
I got about 42 replies on that post, and omething thousand views.
Anyway, thanks for the word of encouragement! Really appreciate that my labour is appreciated!
As for your help...sure! I'm always in need of help. I know my Flash, but that's not what the sites going to be done in. Just like FK, it's going to be just HTML or even DHTML. I know my HTML, but not any scripting/backend kind of stuff. I really need to learn that. I was keen on learning ASP/CGI/PHP/PHP3 and the like, but I've just haven't got that much time So yeah, if you can help, I'd love that, if not it's alright.

Again, thanks guys for your comments, and hopfully the site that I and a couple of other people are helping me to make will exceed your expectations and I hope that it will be of great use to you all, as no doubt many of those sites have been to me!

James - If you want to learn databases without being totally confused then ColdFusion is the place to start!!! All you need is MS Access and notepad I ca nset this system up for you and send you all the code and help you learn a little - This'd be a great project!!! Lemme know what you think!

Hi Chuck, yeah that'd be great! I haven't used ColdFusion before, so I'm not sure what it is If CF is an HTML editor, then I used DreamWeaver.
Once I've got everything compilied, then I'll contact you and you can show me what kind of a server I'll have to put it on. I don't have the money at the moment to actually register a domain and pay for it, so all I can do is just have a free internet one, and I'm not sure whether the free kind of servers out there can handle the Database kind of thing.

ColdFusion is actually a language like ASP to call information from a databse. Basically HTML with a few more tags. I can get ya a free domain with namezero.com and a free 30 MB server from cfm-resources.com so that's taken care of. Do you have MS Access? That's the type of database (mdb) that you have to use there - and I don't have access...what we can do for you is come out with a layout and i can get you set up with a browser based system of adding entrys. Let me know what you think...

I hope you truly do enjoy the list of sites that I have compilied here. Thank you for your contribution too, but unfortunately due to an overwhelming repsonse from the people here, we have around 630 sites to review at the moment. That is quite a number of sites to review, and although I have a team of guys and gals helping me, it would be just too much if there are any more sites to be included at the moment anyway. I'll add the B.O.B site, and it will be reviewed by the panel.

no problem. I can see how it'd be easy to forget. It wasnt' in an official list or anything. it was just in my sig.

It'd be cool if you could do something with your site which lets people rate the sites. Something like Flash Challenge, or http://www.coolhomepages.com but in html. I'm sure there'd be people here to help you with the coding. And your putting all these sites into catagories right? that'll also be cool. It'd also be a good idea to trim down the list in the future. More is not necessarily better. Maybe have something like a "vote to delete" next to each site. When enough people vote that a site shouldn't be in the list, you can look at it again and "act appropriately". Its all a very big job,, but if enough people are willing to help you out, it could work very nicely. I'd help if I could, but I only know how to do flash stuff, and a little html. Also, it'd be kool if people could submit there own reviews and you can read through it and see if it's a good enough review to add to the site.

Just some ideas..

I hope you are enjoying the list of cool sites. At the moment, I along with a team of 4 people, are currently reviewing the sites that are on the first page. I won't be accepting any more at the moment, but as soon as this project gets well under way, then i will.
I believe that this site would be more suited in the Site Check forum however.

As for you djBobo, everything you have said, I have said! IT's amazing! I said to the guys that I wanted this page in HTML and nothing else. Maybe DHMTL, but that's not that likely.
I also said that I wanted to categorise this list, have a rating system that is either out of 10 or out of 5 stars.
I was also thinking of triming down the list as you said. It is a big task as you said, and I've got 4 people helping me on this project. I hope it does turn out great!
I liked the sites like flash challenge, and cool homepages, as well as bestflashsites.de, but they were either in flash which would be too tedious, time consuming and tiresome to update. And with the HTML pages, they were either not soley devoted to Flash sites or they were hard to navagate around.
