I am pretty sure they are all backwards compatible.

mx file can be opened by the flash 8 ide,
8 file can be opened by the cs2 ide, etc...

However, you can not (or at least I cant) open newer version files in older version IDE's. ie: cs5 swf file can not be opened in cs2 ide- etc etc

Link your file and I can help save it to the correct format for ya.

    Best of luck!

thank you GK! i always thought that true as well about Flash. my file exceeds the file size limit for attachments by 34.4KB. so, i am unable to attach my FLA.

what i am trying to do is learn about OOP and game design through a game example entitled “Flak Cannon” game found in the book Flash Games by Jeff Fulton and Steve Fulton.

The book has some great information on file organization and OOP practice minus some typos and poor examples of code supplied via the download.

For someone who is trying to learn and become a better developer it has been a frustrating purchase.

    No Problem-o,

Yeah learning good OOP is really where you want to be (honestly makes development much quicker and easier- and makes updating code much less of a pain). Best of luck, and if you run into any big problems, post them up here and someone should be able to help =)
