radial shape tween

I am trying to use a mask to reveal an image with a clock-like secondhand radial sweep (typical transition since the beginning of time)and am going crazy with the shape change and using shape hints. I don't want to use pieces of a circle that go together in increments which would give a jerky motion. I want a smooth sweep.

Surely somebody has done this before.
