    85 mm 1.8 or 50 mm 1.4??

So my 50 1.8 is starting to give me errors, we had a good run but it's a cheap lens anyway, so should I go for the 50mm 1.8 Canon or go a different direction with the 85 1.8 till the 50 mm 1.8 totally dies on me?

You'll notice the difference in terms of focal length between the 50 and the 85 -the 50 is more "real life" as in it pretty much captures what you see. But -the 85 will force you to use your feet more and you'll end up with tighter cropped photos.

I can't really comment on the quality of the 50 1.4 but I can tell you about the 85mm 1,8 - it's simply stunning. It's often regarded as the best non-L series lens you can get.

It's fast to focus and wonderfully sharp.

    I took this with my 85mm 1.8:

I'm quite tempted to buy one again after selling mine...

Surreal quality, any PP the face looks like it's popping out of the rest of the photo, how tight is the focus on that thing!!?? O_o

Didn't fully get what you mean by using my feet more, like to kick things/models to the ground so I can get them still and not moving??

Ha.. no I mean you'll use your feet to stand back more.

There is a fair amount of PP on that photo but the original photo always needs to be sharp to start with.

The focus on the 1.8 is, in my experience, very good.

might go to a shop this week and try it on my 5DMKII and see what it's like If I get it from Amazon.com plus delivery it'll be around 420 US$ but from Dubai it'll be around 470 can't really justify paying a 50$ less and loose my local warranty

Why not go for the 30mm f1.8 which is more like a 50mm on the APS sized sensors.
