Re: spinning globe

This has the effect you want - globe with continents. I did it in 3D Studio MAX. The model was rather simple (as MAX models go), but it required a lot of hand retouching in Swift3D to get the effect right and quite a bit of work in Flash to reduce size of the movie clip.
You might want to start with some simple continent models and then work your way up to a full globe with continents.
You can start with some of the free models @ 3D Cafe.
Good luck to you!

That is just about what i am looking for. So how hard is it to make that globe in 3d Max? Well about the detail thing..i am not looking for grea detail. I wanted it to have just the longitude and latitude lines and white countries..Would that be hard in 3D max? I dont have a 3d program so i am going to go look for one. I take it that 3D Max is good..so is 3d Swift?

The model you wish is trivial in 3D Studio MAX. It should also be easy in a variety of other packages.
Lat/Lon lines are normally done with wireframe materials. This material type is not recognized and rendered as a wireframe in Swift3D.
You might try drawing these in flash after your Swift3D render.
MAX is a superb package, but expensive and has a long learning curve. There are numerous less expensive packages on the market for basic 3D. A good value for the dollar is TrueSpace by Caligari.
Swift3D is a great. No matter what 3D package you have, Swift3D should be part of your arsenal.
Best of luck to you, Scott!

I did two... well one actually for the Demo Of Death I:
http://www.wackedusa.com/dod3/dod12/around.swf (it's a dimensions rendering...)
And there's also one in an interface that didn't make it for WackedUSA: http://www.wackedusa.com/newfront
this one looks nicer, but you have wait for the worst interface in the world to load... then just click up on the right hand corner on the globe...
Just thought I'd add my two cents, even tho it's only worth one cent.

Nice work, Vince!!
also good to see this effect done across multiple packages.
your two cents is worth at least a buck
