site help

ok well im makeing a flash site for my biology teacher and i was wondering what would be the easiest way for him to update the class assignments. Since he is computer illiterate i was wondering if i should make a passworded part were he can add the assignments into a txt file and each day the txt file updates it self and loads onto the page. If thats a good idea is that possible and how would i do it.

Are you/can you use any server technology?

If you can then using something like asp as an admin page for the tutor to fill out tutorial details might help create a mini content management system?

He could run excell/access as a DB for the information and the asp could in theory generate txt files on the server for your flash movie to load

this way your tutor will have all past tutorials saved in the DB and can re-use when new pupils begin

this is just off the top of my head tho

There is a way using a nice perl script.

I downloaded this thing and modified it to do some pretty decent stuff along the lines of what you want.

It's called 'FlashDB' and lives at:

http://www.kessels.com/FlashDB/index.html

All you need is control of the cgi-bin and an ftp that you can set permissions with. Not an asp, jsp or cf page in sight!

I emailed the guy who wrote it when I had a problem and not only did he answer very quickly but he knew exactly what the problem was.

Ok thanx that script does it make a form because remember this is a teacher there stupid and illiterate when it comes to computers so i was thinking to make it as a little form thats easy to fill out then submits to a txt file.

However it took me a while to get all the cgi-bin and scripts set up properly, so if you need any help with the fla or the sever side stuff, just ask and I'll see if I help.
