    texture animation

i was reading some threads about texture animation here a while back and it gave me the idea for making some pretty realistic looking ocean water (albeit a very brief look for file size specs).

    (the intro)

(note, site is not anywhere finished)

it's done by using the "dents" procedural mapping and changing the noise, size, etc. Also, the moving effect was done by moving the plane toward the viewer.

Great looking effect, I wish it would have lasted longer!
None the less, looks very good.
How did you do the "ripple" effect on the water, just curious.

    svt, thanks for that.

the ripple effect was done by animating a lathe object. in the lathe editor, i first drew a straight line, then a couple humps, then animated it so the humps became flat (straight line) again. this is the same method blink et al used for the bathroom scene.

Excellent idea! I haven't even played with animating lathe objects yst. Still trying to perfect the bitmap thing. I'm getting there. Thanks for the knowledge!
