    I give up.

    I give up.

I downloaded MSI PC Alert III for my PC.

It has a feature called "Cooler XP".

It cools the CPU...but I can't figure out how!

I've checked the clock speed...still the same.

I've checked the fan speed...still the same...

It runs as a low priority process, and uses lots of cpu time.

    Any ideas?!

    It's driving me crazy.

    Okay..the plot thickens.

The RPM of my CPU fan actually goes DOWN about 100 rotations while it is running.

It does a darn good job too.

It cooled it nearly 20 degrees in 15 minutes.

    C'mon Gerbles.

    You should know about this.

It's a app written by one of the best Motherboard manufacturers in the world.

I don't think this is trickery...I'm just wondering what method they used?

It lowered it from 125 to 105.

    Any ideas?

Is it possible that the motor in the fan was heating up at 125 rpm and thereby heating the processor? (Since I can't see the hardware, I don't really know if the proximity could have anything to do.)

The MAGIC theory is probably more likely.

I found one guy who says that it bombards the cpu with "sleep" commands.

It lowers the CPU stress and thus the temperature. Since it only uses unused cpu time...your performance isn't altered.

perhaps it adjusts the fans speed so it flows the maximum amount of air.

If a fan is designed to flow the maximum amount of air at 5000 rpms, at 5500 rpms it will flow lower air that at 5000 rpms.
