Boot problem driving me mad
Hey,
I've had this problem for ages now, but since my PC has worked anyway, It hasnt really bothered me that much.
A while ago my dad upgraded his Motherboard and Processor and I took his old one, an Asus A7M266 and an AMD Athlon 1.4
For those if you who havnt used Linux, when it boots (Im using Red Hat 9) it shows you exactly what its doing with a series of things such as
Starting Sound Daemon.. [OK]
its not graphical at all, it just looks like DOS.
But since I've upgraded I cant see it doing it, the monitor just goes black (green LED though), but I know its booting because I see the harddrive work. And eventualy it goes into the graphical login screen.
Now when i downloaded Slackware 9.1 yesterday it did the intial boot to the start of the setup, and then I pressed enter for the Kernel to detect my Hardware.
After I pressed enter it loads the images of the setup etc and then goes BLACK (again, green LED). Meaning I cant install it because I cant see it.
It does it on the breif bit before windows as well, when that bar goes before it goes to the graphic Windows boot-up screen.
What is this problem ? It didnt happen on my old pentium machine with a gigabyte motherboard.
Any ideas what it can be ? Because its really annoying, especialy when you want to install a new OS.
Thanks,

lol, my Dad says it might be something to do with an 'echo' command. Surely its in the bios somewhere ?
