Computer or no computer
I recently came into some money (a few thousand) and was going to buy a new computer. My old one is realy crap but it still runs Photoshop and Flash so that's cool. I want to get into some 3D stuff but I'm not that into pirated software (and even if I was I don't know where to get it reliably) so if I were to buy a computer that could run what I wanted and the programs I would have no money left. And advice on what to do?

You can pick up a good computer, pretty reasonably now a' days. Check out www.vitalitycomputer.com. They have some good deals.
Since you already have a monitor/mouse/keyboard, you're set there.
My best advice is to invest in the computer. It'll hopefully last you longer than the software.
Other than that, I would suggest a longer shift or another job ...

Also, you're only 14/15 right? I wouldn't suggest purchasing the 3D software, ie. 3D Studio Max/ Maya unless you're running some sort of after school design firm. Now's a great time to become aquainted with 3D modeling if that is an interest of yours. I would suggest checking out the Maya educational software. Maya Educational
You may want to also check out Blender and MilkShape (I forget if either/neither are free (I believe blender is).)
Again, I say invest a moderate amount of your money into a computer tailored to your interests. (ie 1024 mb ram for 3D modeling)
Take your time and really do your homework and you'll be fine. Don't let this initial run into money go to your head and you should end up with some money left in your pocket.

That is so cool, all software companies should do this so people can learn the packages... They make enuf money out of Universitys and other establishments.. I would have suggested getting into plasma as a stepping stone into Max with low fees, Think i'll have to check this one out myself, Cheers Genisis.

Cinema 4D is also a very good option, I learnt on that and there is always a free version doing the magazine cover rounds...

Invest $1500 in MGX.TO on the stock market (TSE). If the company (near bankrupt) rebounds as many expect, and get back to their 52 week high of $1.00 you could make $100 000... Or if they go to their previous price of about 2 years back you could make $500 000... Then again if they hit 0 you lose everything..
Sorry, I just bought 10 000 shares and I am hoping for a miracle recovery.

I think this is a good investment since risk VS reward is huge. If you get 1000 shares it will only cost you $15 CAD or about $11 USD + commission. Yet if they go back to $1 as they were in November last year you make $1000 (minus your initial $15 CAD - commission - taxes you could still make $900)
Then again if it hits 0, you are only out $15 or $11 if your in the US.
Even better though, you can double your money if it moves to only $0.03 (more realistic than it going to $1)
I've already placed an order for 10000 shares at $150 CAD (crosses fingers) GO STOCK GO!!

ok all this sounds interesting but I have no idea about the stock market. Could someone point me to a website that would list this stock so I could maybe look into it. Sounds like it could be a good investment.??
thanks

Make sure whatever computer you're getting is upgradable. Make sure it has the capacity to handle hardware that is kind of expensive right now, but will be cheaper in the future.
I'm getting a new computer for Christmas, but putting it together myself. Tiger Direct has several packages that are "barebones systems," meaning no monitor, no OS, etc. I have my Windows 2000 disc so I don't need that.
I'm literally going to be going from a much upgraded Compaq Presario bought in late 1998 that is 350Mhz, 320 MB ram
to a 2.0GhZ system here
And since last week the price is down almost $100.
I bet I'm going to lose my mind when working in Photoshop and when working on music.
