Problem with movie Clips in FLMX2004

Mac OSX (Panther) - Dual 800 G4, FlashMX2004. I've created an animation.fla. I want to convert it to a movie clip. I copy the frames from the .fla file. I create a new symbol, type movie. I select the 1st frame. I choose to paste frames. The application quits every time. Any clues? What's happening here?

does this happen with any fla file or is it limited to just this one? also have you run the updater yet? (update to version 7.01)
