Flash Banner Design
can someone point me in the right direction in learning about designing banners in flash? tutorials, file size, techniques, anything. thanks!

you can use a wizard from "new from template" on the file menu at flash MX
it should be really, really light, 100 k's is too much, depending on your target market.
you should also find out the specs of the hosts.

the company i might be doing this for wants to keep the file size under 29k so that is the biggest challenge. i am hoping to find oiut some good ways to get animations to stay small. i know actionscripting the animations can help a bit, but i'm not sure how much it will help.

Who, What, Why ... ?
You could always desgin a background image(s) for your banner (say 500wX100h or so) and then do some animation over the top of the imagme, perhaps passing the clients name over the image in a mask effect. If you use multiple images, you could fade them in and out of your background.
Just a thought.

If you can keep it text and background it's easy, if not i'd reccomend you to use .PNG files from photoshop, which keep transparencies and are really light.
also, make the images to import the size they are going to bee seen, so you dont need to scale them, and you can keep them at screen resolution (75 to 150 dpi's).
good luck.

i amy be mistaken, but aren't .PNG files fireworks? Thought photoshop files had a .PSD extension?

you can also make them in photoshop, on file>save as and choosing PNG as format. they are very useful.
