Under the influence
Well my Dad said...
My Dad is in Denver atm, he said some inetersting things.
Apart from the fact that no-one can understand him when he asks for a "bea" (beer), he also says that no-one drinks milk in their coffee, it's either black or you have non-dairy whitener or something? Also, he wanted a cup of tea and the people there searched around until they found a kettle and none of them knew how to use it
Also he said the food is absolutely horrible, he said he gets plenty of it, but its not cooked properly?!
However he says it is a very picturesque, clean city and apparently he is going to an ice hockey game on Tuesday.
Is Dad just unlucky or is this typical in most parts of the US?

bea? yea it's called beer. Most people know how to pronounce that word here and if you call it bea, you might get some strange looks.
Milk. Anywhere I have gotten coffee milk (or real cream) is always an option... unless your in a small office kitchen they might just have powderd non-dairy creamer or something which isn't bad. But I like mine black.
Food. There is a wide variety of food and dining options here. I am not too sure about Denver in particular, but I know there are good restaurants in Colorado.
Other than that it's pretty bad here. I advise all of you foreigners to stay away .

Domo Arigato!
Here's what to tell him. Tell him to walk out into the streets tomorrow and cheer, "GO STEELERS!" That'll make him welcome (and he'll be my hero).

I said "bea" because that is basically how it sounds to you guys when we say beer. I think perhaps my dad just copped probably a bad hotel and he IS working in a small office environment most of the time (hence the powdered).

i can get hot tea almost anywhere. its only good in the "healthier" locally owned places.
most of the time when ordering a beer, we just normally say the brand name. ie "bud" or "miller", etc.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Yea, it's very regional here in the states.
Actually if he asked for a bea in Bahstin, I am sure he would fit right in

haha. sounds like he should just wear a helmet anyway if not having milk for his coffee and being misunderstood in a foreign country is considered "unlucky."

Oh I think that is probably an unnecessary comment, we both speak English don't we? Anyway, I wasn't really surprised about the beer thing, more about the other stuff.
*sigh* there is always one I guess
