Trouble - a little bitter than normal

    Hi,

My MSN messenger started to act very strangly these days, I cannot log-in with out experiencing difficulties. the code for the problem (well i really don't know is this a code or not) is 80048883. I checked the connection and found out my key-port is doing weird stuff, but there isn't any firewall blocking my computer! so what could be wrong?

Besides, My messenger service is normal and my internet access is quick, as you might noticed durning reading this brief, long, boring, letter.

    Regards,
    Tongxn

You might want to check the Microsoft Firewall settings. I had a similair problem a few months ago and I knew I wasn't using a firewall at all but it turned out that the MS firewall had enabled itself and was blocking MSN...

It's because Microsoft thinks you spend too much time online and they want you to go outside and play hackneysack and duck-duck-goose and baseball and roll around in the grass with a pretty girl.

    Lol,
But pity that didn't solve my problem.

Any suggestions about what the Microsoft Firewall actually is and where do i turn it off? my internet explorer's gone crazy and won't open up with out this stupid run-time error occuring, forcing it to terminate itself.

Go to the Security Center in the control panel and make sure Firewall says off. You can also go to the Internet Explorer options security tab and turn it off in there.

I'd say run over to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and update your Windows. Also try running a couple of different malware removers (google: lavasoft adaware and/or spybot search & destroy).

In the past, I've had crap like that prevent MSN Messenger from working properly.

OK then but it says off..
And there aren't any other programmes i installed that blocks pop-ups. My computer's privacy settings are set to low and Internet zone restrictions are somewhere in mid-low.

Thanks for your input guys but I am really stuck here.

p.s. i am using FireFox, does it have a popup blocker of any kind?
