    [Disc] Current Games 4

    Hey all,

That's right, its that time again - when the love and pimping is brought together in one squishy place. Let your screenies spill forth and let everyone know what you are working on at this very minute!

It would be nice to get a little geeky as well.. tell how many files, classes, lines of code, hours of sweat have gone into the game so far and anything else your willing to share (but especially screen shots!)

For the newbies and the old timers here are the previous 'current games' threads..

I am trying to finish game for jayisgames competition. The theme is somehow painfully hard, I tried to come up with something original for nearly 3 weeks and I have big doubts about the one I finally made. Its probably either too hard, too easy or will not even qualify.

Don't worry, I bet all game developers who're busy now creating their games for a competition have same thoughts.
    BTW. Me too

Did you read about new deadline for submissions (it was changed to 28 of February now)?

been and am busy with several university projects wich are close to be finished. Some things I really improved in lately are rigging, texture- wrapping/ painting and animations. Here are 2 renderings of a short movie I am working on (very low poly, and almost everythign rigged) :

and alot of that knowledge inspired me for this project:

it´s a jagged alliance 2 clone (for the beginning) with lots of improvements and on the other hand limitations so that it will be a fun round based strategy game.

some demos of papervision got my attention into the ASE export format so I have been taking a look into that as well. So what I want to do in my upcomming vacation besides supporting luxregina with concepts again (sorry dude but no time so far) is this project.
I plan on rendering the building and static objects as sprites and import active objects and the player models as 3d models with a custom motion engine (will be a mix of point-bone systems and IK- rig) to animate them in realtime. A motion mixer (relative animation system) would be nice as well to blend mutliple motion into one motion- but I´ll see that once I start with all that motion stuff.

About the 3d-stuff: so far I think that I already grasped the ASE file format and how it works with max. What I want in the end is a workflow where I can model and UVW-unwrap models in max - paint the textures in PS and export them into my flash engine.

Technology: I try on finally moving forward to AS3 because esspecially those 3d- polygonal stuff seems to better fit into that language- besides it gets time for me upgrading AS knowledge as many projects of me have some ancient AS- syntax. Already have some nice books and tutorials for that.

bleh to much to post I guess,- well on the sketch you can see some minigames (actions) that are needed to disarm for example a mine- or pick a lock. Some very rough PS space design (not in relation of what it might look final)

all other projects I am working on right now are not directly flash related, except my website for my psychology lessons

I’m currently working on 3 projects (eek).

    1) Bullet theory - I’ve posted a preview of this if you want to see some more screenies. This is my personal project so its only progressing slowly, but its starting to take shape. I'm just making the player death animation as we speak.

    2) Platform RPG - Yea, I’ve never made a platformer or an RPG before, but now I’m making both in one game . It's pretty far into development already. I’ve made an editor which has most of the RPG features already in it. All that remains to do really is the platformer style enemies and putting it all together using the editor. Its quite a big project, but not massive. The editor has cut a lot of the hassle out that making an RPG causes.

    3) Arcade/'shooter'/thingy - can't really describe this one to you, I suppose its like ikaruga without the scrolling and without the ability to shoot . I only have the engine made for this one. Not properly working on it yet.

So that’s what I’m doing... expect to see releases starting within the next 2-3 weeks hopefully.

Invasion 5 (mainly a test of the Flash Player's power)
Will soon be starting work on a multiplayer game for my twin's school (first time I'll be getting paid at least minimum wage for Flash work, and deadline is September, so I have oodles of time to work on it )
Also currently working on an all-purpose platformer engine to open-source (just draw the level, draw the collision area of the character, and make the various animations). It's BitmapData-based, and will therefore have destructible (perhaps even constructible) terrain.

Ready for when me and Renderhjs get started on Last Ninja 2 (hint hint..lol)

I honestly think ,ine will get finished, but I am having major problems with file sizes, My original plan was to have the lights shootable, but this increased my file size by 9 mb's, thats unacceptable to me so I ditched the idea. Now I'm running into problems with character rigging/animation up close.

In order to achieve realistic lighting effects I need to have each enemy rendered seperately, again raising file sizes, I dont see this level being finished under 20 mb's, which is way unacceptable. So in conclusion I am studying the original lethal enforcer on youtube and concidering just following there way of game play, maybie even just recreating the same game using modern graphics.

I really get derpressed when I work on something for a week and then look at the file and it says 20mb, I just cant release something like that.

This is my first post in one of these threads and as my title suggests, I consider myself pretty flash incompetent... ANYWAYS, this is a game I had started a while ago and am now picking back up, I think posting here might also get me motivated to keep at it. It's my first game and I chose a space invader type game, not sure if thats the proper genre title.

    Graphics:
Leaving to the end, hopefully will find someone impressed enough with my project that they will be willing to make the graphics for it. Hoping for some awesome pixel art.

    Current Features
6 Different weapons to choose from, ranging from different levels of strength and fire speed as well as some more unique weapons such as heat seeking missiles and a grenade-esque weapon.
3 Other purchasable items: scanner(shows enemy health, user activated shield, and matrix-style slow mo pill)
    3 Different enemy movement types
Inventory/Stage clear screen where you can purchase new items, and buy repairs for your ship

    What's Next:
Looking into a save game or code that can be generated/entered to load your game
    Pre-mission dialogue screen
    Actually coding some levels!

    Screenshot:
kind of crappy looking so don't hate!

well I guess that's it for me. Hopefully my first game will get completed someday, and might be a little bit of fun. Any feedback of any sort would be wonderful!

Two Kingdoms Heroes, still on heavy production :

Joey (Ifritt) gave me some stats for the 'geeky' part

    - 26 classes (way more to come)
    - 32 external .as files
    - so far, 417 different tiles ( there again, way more to come ...)
    - 4 people working on 2KH ( Coder, GFX designer, sound engineer and musician )
    - 1 ring to ...wait...is that TOO geeky ?

I expect these numbers to grow insane, as we get close to completion !

All these games look really good, I forgot that these WIP threads are really annoying because I just end up wanting to play these games that aren't going to come out for a while. I'm still waiting for really old WIP's I've seen. For example where the hell is bubble islands! I wanna play it! And I think it was Fall_X who was making a really awesome looking RPG. More recently Fil Razorback's tactics game looks unbelievable, hopefully we can hear from them, maybe then I can get some more english info from Fil.

    @luxregina
wow that looks really good! I kinda want to play it!

ugh, I feel so crappy in comparison to all of you guys...

Lol, I know how you feel Chase. These guys are good, but it takes time. Just keep at it and keep reading these guys posts and you'll learn a great amount of stuff :P

    Anyways, my WIP

    Snake 2 - http://crownsnake.com/snake2.php
    Still to come:
multiple levels, menu, audio, high scores and a few other things

Wow, alot of great games are in development. Well I'm currently working on "Beamos". My little guiding laser type game. I don't have any screenshots due to a redo of the graphics and some of the engine. It's been in development for a few months, mainly due to alot of work over at work and trying to figure out how to do stuff. I only have one class and as file. Still try'n to figure out how classes work. I'd say there is around 225 lines of code.

YA I agree with you there Chase, I feel weird putting my game in here.

    @walsher

I've decided we shouldn't feel weird or bad, as corny as it sounds, we should be proud, as long as we are performing on or above a level of quality consistent with our set of skills and knowledge. I hope more people who are a little less fluent in flash are willing to post their works in progress!

Well, I'm still working on the same old project I started in November. Finishing a game is harder than I thought.

Technical stuff; I'm not into the loading AS files yet (have to look into it, sounds like a good idea), but a quick estimate gave 600 lines of code. I have 10 completed levels, but will add more to even out the learning curve.

Graphics: don't exist. Lux has promised to make some tiles for it, and by the looks of 2KH, they will be incredible, even if they are only a tenth of what he has done for that game!

Gameplay: Its a secret for now, but if you remember the thread I started asking for artists, then you know what its about.

I'm working on a Valentine's themed game that will hopefully be ready, well, before Valentine's Day. Stay tuned.
