Quick! Beer!
I'm in Carlsbad, CA and my interview is over (it went OK I guess). I was told that I need to go to Karl Strauss Brewery and have a beer to celebrate.
I'm going in an hour, but I know nothing of beer as I never drink the stuff. So I need you experts of beer to tell me what's good.
Here's a menu. What should I have?

Well it usually depends on personal taste. If you aren't a big drinker, is it simply because you don't like the taste beer offers or you just don't get around to it?
If you don't mind the taste, any preferences?
PAlexC: That's just Chuck Norris's way of saying sometimes corn needs to lay the heck down.
Gerbick: America. Stabbing suckers since Vespucci left.

I have never had a beer. Never cared to try, so personal preferences would be appreciated. I plan on getting something steaky to eat if that matters.

go with the Del Marzen or with the Amber Lager. Both should be ok for a non-beer drinker. I'd personally go with the Hefeweizen... but I tend to like more full-bodied, heavier beers. The tastes in all parts of the sip will highlight a hefe-weizen (wheat beer).
Honestly, if you've never had a beer, why start now?

I thought I'd try one, and where better than a brewery?
Maybe I'll like it, maybe I'll hate it. I guess I'll find out.

the wheat beers and the porters and bocks are too strong and heavy for a first timer. sorta like going from water to moonshine... I'd not suggest it even with a good idea of what you might be going into.
lagers, pils, and some summer varietals are lighter... I'd personally get a non-beer drinker to start with a cerveza (mexican style beer) or a lager usually and introduce the rest with the proper foods.

Well, thanks for the suggestions. My only mode of transportation is out of commission, so it looks like I get cold pizza tonight.

By a friend or the interviewer? If the former, incase things don't work out this time, you may want to go with whatever's cheaper so you're sure you can afford the return flight home.
*thinks positively. thinks positively. thinks positively* Good luck, Yasu.

I'll reserve the luck chants for Yasu... dude doesn't need it. Dude's damn near a genius... if they don't hire him, that's their prob.
Either way, positive vibes regardless. And have a sip of something on my behalf.

Thanks for the good luck. This interview seemed to go well. Of course, so did Baltimore, but they didn't want me there.
If they don't want to hire me, I know I can get a better paying job where I live now, plus it won't be as expensive as living in california. So I'm really not all that concerned. The game industry is hard to get into without experience anyway.
Gen: the hotel's shuttle was in an accident and won't be running tonight. The company I interviewed for already payed for the flight home, so there's no worries about not getting back.

.... Hijacking thread for a second: I FKING LOVE YOUR AVATAR GERBS! FLCL WAS TEH AWESOME! (Got the sound track recently too)
Anyway! Hope you get some good news come Monday, Yasu. Fingers crossed!

Sorry you didn't get to go out, Yasu, but if you're ever in that situation ask them if they have a beer sampler.
Most breweries and microbreweries will offer a 6-8 mini-beer sampler platter for a reasonable price.
You get a small glass each of their popular varieties to try side by side.
Who knows, you might just find yourself to be an undeveloped beer aficionado... or alcoholic as the wife calls it.

I prefer drunk. Alcoholics have to attend those damn meetings...

I went to a friends 21st birthday party at a brewery. He got a 15 beer sampler after which he could choose one and get a full size beer all free.
He was so wasted.
-
He has risen!
and did you try any of them? what did you like if so.
-
No!
I was 19 at the time, so no beer for me. Like I said before, never had one.
-
No I can't do it by tommorow..
never had a real beer before then stick to pale ale, you have a good session without having to put up with aquiring a taste for darker ale or the hangover in the morning... leave that for another adventure... first session should be fun
-
...just avoid ales. Yuck! not my thing
