it's down.
from their homepage
UPDATED 16 August, 2007 14:02 GMT: Some of you may be having problems logging in to Skype. Our engineering team has determined that it’s a software issue. We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Additionally, downloads of Skype have been temporarily disabled. We will make downloads available again as quickly as possible.

STILL DOWN!!!
Hello all,
As Europe has woken up to a new day and Asia is entering the evening hours, here’s the latest on the sign-on problem.
We’re on the road to recovery. Skype is stabilizing, but this process may continue throughout the day.
An encouraging number of users can now use Skype once again. We know we’re not out of the woods yet, but we are in better shape now than we were yesterday.
Finally, we’d like to dispel a couple of theories that we are still hearing. Neither Wednesday’s planned maintenance of our web-based payment services nor any form of attack was related to the current sign-on issues in any way.
We’ll update you again as soon as we can. Thanks for hanging tight

It's been down for me... but oddly enough I can call out to landlines without incident.

Skype to Skype is still free. Skype to landline costs... and I bought the 1-year unlimited for 14.95 USD in January... unlimited call out to US/Canada which has helped me out quite a few times while traveling.
The beta version is for the Mac - 2.7 Beta is what EVP is more than likely referring to. I run that on my Mac as well... on the PC, they finally took 3.5 out of beta.
The beta just adds functions... and software bloat. Nothing major like free calling and stuff. There is a Skype Pro that's above what I have, but I'd never use half of that crap.

the beta versions and skype out (the pay service) have nothing to do with one another. skype out used to be free, but you can still call any other skype client for free, and now you can have up to 10 people (clients) on a conference call

I'll conference your call.

I have no friends. Just sign on random Facebook walls... and get no love back.
I need a hug ya'll.

My wall is gerbick-less lately.
I vote for you to make a group hug application where you can invite people to the group hug.
