    Weird DNS Issues - Firewall

    Hey everybody,

FK is the place I turn to for tech support, because I support all my friends and have no one else to back me up. I need geekier friends.

For the past couple of days, I've been unable to access a bunch of sites, including FK, Microsoft and Adobe.

I could send a request, but timed out on waiting for a reply.

I tried manually setting my local DNS to 4.2.2.1 / 4.2.2.2 with no luck.

I finally set my router (Verizon-provided) to use that as a static DNS, but that had no impact.

Then I notice my router firewall had open both in and out for port 53 (DNS). I closed port 53 inbound, and voila! All is well.

    Can anyone explain this? Thanks.

It must be because of the genes (DNS german is DNA english, just kidding).
