It was more out of curiosity of the answer then actually doing it. I have never been a gambler and don't plan on being. My dad is a bum and has lost a lot of money in his life because of it and I don't plan on following in his foot steps.

No he is back mooching off his first wife and on disability.
How easy is it really to win in one of these online tournaments? I have never really played poker but just to kill some time at night it might be fun to play with some lose change. Are there poor people poker sites haha?

How about forcing their kids to hand over their pay-check from the video store? I've some terrible situations.
You can play the .com of most poker sights for free using fake money. It's not really good practice for the .net sites as people play full tilt with fake money. Further, pay sites are not good practice for real table games because it's a different psyche game.
That said, an online tourny on the weekends can be a really fun way to kill a few hours.

I've come first a few times in the Sit & Go tourneys but more often than not I don't score a prize position. If I tote up my wins vs losses then I'd probably be -£50 which isn't too bad. I'm no big money player but I can see how people get addicted. The money doesn't seem real when you're playing online and it doesn't hit you how much you've spent until your card statement arrives.
I've had to uninstall the software from my PC because I know if I'm drunk and see it on my desktop then the card will come out and I'll be up till 5am playing the tournies.

....he's amazing!!!
There are some surprisingly easy and hard to detect ways of scamming people in online poker, and the sites hosting the games don't necessarily need to be in on it.
Curiously, the strategy gshock is talking about (one person playing many tables) is about the most dangerous thing you can do, so I'm wondering whether he's baiting people to go and play in this way so he can scam them.
Most stroies I hear about gambling success are just ways of baiting people to go and lose money.
Gshock probably has multiple accounts with this poker site, and has a way of accessing via multiple IP addresses. Anyone turning up and playing at a table with him and his aliases will find they win the first couple of hands and then get bled dry as soon as they get confident and bet more money.
I'd put money on it.

a few, both family members and co-workers.
surprisingly of the ones i know, they 'claim' to be very successful, where one of them actually made a living off of it, just playing online.
Another bought a brand new car with his winnings.
However, i'd like to know how much they were down and how often they were ready to hit bottom during their 'success'.
I personally have no patience for poker and i hate losing money to chance.

Poker had absolutely nothing to do with my question. Who knows people like gshock? This is... entertainment.

People who make stuff up like he does or someone who is REALLY like him? I know people who make **** up all the time. We always say he is out planting bean stalks with every lie he tells so that one day he will be able to climb into his fairy tale land and live forever.
but people who are actually like him- I really hope there isn't anyone.

I'd put money on it.
And you'd lose your money.
gshock isnt the type who has multiple accounts. The games he's playing dont cater to having multiple accounts anyway. You want to play a 180 person $36 turbo tournament with 5 accounts? Go ahead and waste your money.

I dont play much anymore because i have too much freelance work and 2 kids but it's not as easy as everyone thinks.
The only thing gshock has right is the variance you see if you're playing on a regular basis.
You can be the best player ever, and you'll still lose, a lot.
The key is to be able to withstand bad beats, suckouts, and overall bad luck. If you have the bankroll, patience, and a little bit of poker savvy you can make a living playing poker online.
That's 40+ hours a week of grinding it out. You're not going to have a good chance if you play the big fun tournaments. You're going to be grinding it out on a cash table, sometimes not playing a single hand for hours.
It's a fun hobby, it's not as glamorous a job as they portray on TV though.

I'd compare it to being a professional gamer. I would grow to hate video games very quickly if I had to put in eight hours a day training.
I wonder if my punch in the face comment went too far.

Eight hours of training a day? If anyone offers me, I'm in!
Better than eight hours of attending to fickle minded customers, mind you.
