    Gaming and Charity (WoW)

    Save the world.
    Save the world again.
This is an idea I had i would like to share.
I am biased and using World of Warcraft as an example.
I know the game sometimes runs seasonal activities where you gather certain materials from the game and turn them in for rewards.
What if they were to take this example and apply it towards real world charity.
    For example.
Players take 100 in-game gold and exchange it to an NPC.
That 100 gold in return becomes real currency that is donated by WoW to a charity.
I think personally that it would catch on fast and lots of people would love to do this.

    What you be thinking?
I can only postulate the probability of performing at a paramount level of perfection praised by the pulchritudinous paragon whose only practice is to preserve such a paradigm.

anything that translates to real world value will be exploited. It's the reason they've never mixed video-games and slot machines.

could work, I'd see it as a way for people who normally don't give any money to charity or can't really afford to (like myself) to help...I don't think it will ever happen though

What kind of charity would be suitable for WoW to be involved in? There's a heap out there. Why should WoW choose that charity in favour of the other?

Why should people donate to charity in the first place? What's in it for the people?
Why should WoW be involved with a charity? What's in it for WoW? - I'd say that's probably the bigger issue. Can you get a tax refund or something for being involved in charity?

There are already many examples of vitual items and products being sold for real world cash so in theory it could work. I've never played WoW but I'm sure real money and online "currency" will become more exchangable in the future as both online and offline worlds increasingly converge.

    They are called charitable deductions.

There are warehouses full of kids earning in-game gold for groups that sell it in real life and "share" the profits.

    Anyone ever seen Avalon?
