Do you guys have enough patience to play flash games?

I know I don't. I can't stand playing a game that isn't mine unless its pure awesomeness. I never played bloons for more then a couple minutes. N game is the only one that I liked.

I was wondering if others have this problem. I also hate sound in any game. IDK why.

if it's free and I'm not having fun then why should I play it.
Bloons is the most overrated browser game in the world.

I don't have time to play Flash games as much as I used to, when I was working at gimme5 I'd spend a fair bit of time every day just playing new stuff.

I find if I don't have time to give something a proper go then I don't bother. I do the same when mates show me their games, a lot of the time I just don't have chance to really play them for long, and a "Yeah that's cool" reply to someones hard work is just a bit insulting.

I play flash games quite a lot, atleast compared to pc games.....mainly cause i can play them for a few minutes, when i get some free time, and there's a huge variety available for free!

I usually can't. So many of them are so poorly made, with awful UI design and dull gameplay...it's tough to find a game that's actually good. There are alot out there, but they're almost smothered by the mass of boringness.

Bloons is pretty fun for a couple minutes...but Helicopter is really all I have patience for.

i agree with the flash, its the looking for decent ones to play that is time consuming,
but part of the point of most flash games is that you can log on and play them quickly, so to say you ""dont have time"" is ludicrous, you had time to post to forums didnt you :P
sure there are alot of ones that might take long to play, that dont have save function,,,,, but those i avoid

best thing to do is find a few you like, that take 5 mins to play, and enjoy a round or two here and there.

""I also hate sound in any game. IDK why. ""

what? you like silent games? play a board game man :P
thats part of what makes them have some oomf is decent sounds.

maybe that is partially because the games you have playd have annoyng sounds?
I had my roomates scream for some death cries for my game i working on, my sounds HAVE to be good, music too.

I never said I have no time, I said I have no patience. They are boring. I saw one game on iphone that I wanna recreate cuz its awesome.

    Helicopter rocks.

My forte is short games that are less then a minute. High score types.
Like, beat that! thats what i go for.

as far as patience goes, excluding the time it takes to find one that doesnt suck, Flash games make you deal with far less BS than a real computer game.

There are decent worth while flash games out there, you just gotta find em,
they also seem to be getting much better in general, i think ive seen better flash games now than say over a year or 2 ago.

Just give me a little more time,,,,,,, il start cranking out the REALLY GOOD flash games :P

I still play new Flash games every now and the. When I check how my games are doing, I usually see something interesting and try it out.

Gimme friction is one I always go back to, that's a great way to lose 30 mins.

"so to say you ""dont have time"" is ludicrous, you had time to post to forums didnt you"

It's a bit different. For example Mr.M's Iron Man wip he posted the other day, I had a quick glance at that 'cause he always does great work, but I really didn't have the time to get into it like I'd want to, so I didn't post a comment as I had nothing really constructive to say that hadn't been said already.

As a game dev there's nothing I hate more than killing myself on a game only to post it somewhere and just get pointless glib replies, usually on 1 line. From my peers I find it so dismissive, it's like "You guys know the pain that goes into making something like this, so either play it properly and post something worth while, or don't".

That doesn't just apply to games on here, it's in general. So if I can't give a game the attention that all the hard work and creativity deserves then I find it better not to play it.
It's so easy to play a game for under a minute and right it off as being crap for a number of reasons where it may have a greater depth to it.

I have to say I'm surprised at the number of people here (who are presumably making games) who claim to not like them and/or not play them.
Could that has something to do with the glut of crappy games out there?

I dont think playing many games over long time helps you to make better games. If you want to write a novel do you start by reading through everything ever written?

I think it's important to benchmark yourself though, to play the really good games, 'cause that's what your games are competing ( Nasty but true ) against. I don't think you can work in an isolated bubble, there are lot's of nice little things to pick up out there ( Like time spent looking at stats ).

Also to keep on top of trends, like achievements are a pretty standard feature now like pause modes were a couple of years back.

Of course not, and I think you know I wasn't suggesting that Tony.
If you're a writer I think you should still continue to read things written by other people though.

I would hope that the designers that create my running shoes also be avid runners themselves, so they would better understand the requirements of a good running shoe.

If you make games you should also play games.
Even if nothing out there inspires you (really?), it's helpful to take a look at other games and think about specifically what it is you don't like about them. Then make sure you don't do any of those things in your games.

When you get jaded enough to think you can no longer learn anything from what other people are making I think it's time to find a new career.

I'm not going to contaminate my creativity.
95% of all the flash games out there lack on style originality and creativity, I only play games from you guys, or those that are supossed to be amazing.

most people think, that making a flash game is making a rehashed idea as fast as they can, with powerpoint looking menu, and nothing to innovate, easy money, but nothing else than garbage.

So I ask you my friend, do you make games or do you make garbage.

my god that sounded so cool, no offense.

Edit: making games is an art you need to be original, too original is very risky the game may turn unplayable for the very casual gamers, remember the fun factor is the most important thing.

Other than playing peoples games posted here, I occasionally check out the front page of newgrounds to see what’s hot at the moment and spend 45 minutes on a game or two just to keep up to date on the flash scene. I do however much prefer playing downloadable indie games as sources of inspiration.

I'm not entirely sure what it is, but there is just something about flash games that don't inspire me. I'm not sure if it's just the mounds of crap that surround the good games or the fact that I see them as competition with a sort of "oh I could have made that" attitude. I think the real reason though is that commercialisation of flash games has caused a lack of the freshness and uniqueness that I need to inspire me. Everything feels like it's trying to be overly professional but yet doesn't quite get away with it and it leaves games feeling wrong to me. In contrast you only have to go download a few games featured on the indiegames.com blog and everything feels fresh and exciting and gives loads of inspiration. I don't get that from flash games in general, no matter how shiny the game is or how realistic the physics are.

It's naive to think you will produce good work by working in a vacuum.
